An example is Gucci’s Crackle leather bomber jacket from the house’s latest ready-to-wear collection and retails for $3,400. Forever 21’s version is nearly identical, with the same neck and strip detailing and identical structure, and sells for $34.90, 97 percent cheaper than the designer original.

A popular Gucci sweater with a butterfly design cost $1,250 and sold out. Forever 21 followed suit with an eerily similar Forever 21 edition on sale for $19.90.

Striped pants are a major trend for the Italian brand at the moment. Gucci’s blue striped joggers sell for $900. Forever 21 sells a similar version in grey and black for $48 with identical blue-red-blue stripe detailing.

The feud started in December 2016 when Gucci sent letters to Forever 21 demanding the brand ‘cease and desist from any and all use of blue-red-blue stripes,’ according court documents obtained by Aol.

More letters were sent in January and February. In June, Forever 21 responded by preemptively suing Gucci to protect its use of the stripes.

Gucci then filed a complaint on August 8th, suing the brand after they resisted the luxury brand’s demands.

Gucci said this is a step to ‘finally put an end’ to Forever 21’s ‘blatant exploitation’ to CBS.

Forever 21 responded by saying ‘clothes with this same, common stripe design have been sold for many years, by many different brands and remain widely available today.’

But this isn’t the first time Forever 21 is caught in hot water over copied designs.

The brand has also had spats with Puma and Adidas, who sued the giant over ripped stripe designs that the sportswear brands are known for.

Clothing company Everlane went to Instagram in support of Gucci and said ‘the styles in question are clear knock offs – including a signature print and design – just recreated at a lower quality and a lower price.’

The message ended with ‘it’s unethical and it has to stop.’
