Ahead of the local council elections in Benue State slated for June 3 this year, there have been mounting allegations of imposition and other sharp practices orchestrated by the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State.
The latest allegations came from the aspirant for the chairmanship position for Ogbadibo Local Government Area, Hon Friday Iwodi Adogo.
Adogo took a swipe at the entire process of screening of aspirants and accused the state APC Chairman, Abba Yaro, of orchestrating the imposition of candidates on the party.
Adogo, who expressed concern at the ugly development, revealed that certain aspirants were given clearance even before the results of the screening were published as required by the APC ’s guidelines.
He alleged that Yaro was using his position to corner the chairmanship ticket in Ogbadibo to his council ward, which according to him, was against democratic tenets.
The aspirant who expressed the loss of confidence in the Barr John Ochoga-led screening committee called on the party leadership at the national level to wade into the issue as according to him, allowing such to continue will only lower the chances of the party during the council elections.
