The member representing Ifako/Ijaiye Federal Constituency of Lagos State in the House of Representatives, Adewale Elijah Olutayo is dead.
We learnt that the lawmaker, who was last seen at plenary on Wednesday was found dead at his Abuja home yesterday morning by his driver, who went to pick him up for work.  The former Special Adviser on Education during the first term of former Governor Babatunde Fashola’s administration was born in 1951.
He attended Ilesha Grammar School where he obtained his West Africa School Certificate in1968. He proceeded for his tertiary education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he bagged a bachelor’s degree in 1979 and also got a Masters Certificate from the Lagos State University in 2005.
Prior to becoming a member of the House of Representatives, he was Chairman of Ifako/Ijaiye Local Government from 2004 to 2007. The cause of his death was not yet known as at the time of going to press.
Speaker Yakubu Dogara described his death as sudden and shocking.
Dogara, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, added that he was deeply affected by the death his colleague who he described as a hardworking, committed and patriotic lawmaker.
“The late Hon. Elijah died when his services to the nation were most needed.

“We mourn our fallen colleague as one who gave his best in service to God and humanity,” the statement read in part.
Meanwhile, the House, yesterday, adjourned to Tuesday, September 13 for its annual vacation.
Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity, Abdulrazak Namdas said work would continue at the level of committees.

“As it is the tradition, work will continue at the committee level during the break,” he said.
