Police Authorities in Enugu State have concluded plans to hold Town Hall meetings with traditional rulers, herdsmen, religious leaders, youth bodies and local vigilante groups aimed at adopting potent security measures that will ward-off the invasion of communities in the state by criminal elements.
The meeting,it was gathered,is a strategic initiative of the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Solomon Arase, to hold in Enugu-West, Enugu-North and Enugu-East senatorial districts to conscientiously establish the attitude of community policing in all stakeholders.
A statement made available to newsmen by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, revealed that the town hall meetings will address cases of internal security threats in the communities.
“It will address issues of grassroot security, reduce misinformation and rumour mongering,anxiety as well as animosity, given the current security challenges associated with local communities and herdsmen. It is reassurance policing, geared towards peaceful co-existence and sensitivity of each community’s values, space and interest .
